This talk describes research on the early development of temporal-directional sensitivity. In a series of experi- ments,4- and 8-month-olds were shown forward and backward videotapes of events involving the effects of gravity on liquids and solid objects and of the separa tion of whole objects into pieces. 4-month-olds showed a significant preferenc for the forward version of liquid pouring from a beaker to a glass. 8-month-old looked longer at the forward versions of this and 4 other gravity-related event but showed no directional preferences for the separation events. Several experi ments indicate that longer looking at the forward versions of the gravity stimuli is not a product of attraction to specific perceptual features of the stimuli. Other studies show that young children (3 ? - 4 ? years of age) judge backward gravity events to be impossible, but they are not sensitive to the direction of eating a cracker or breaking a biscuit. The results support the gradual development of temporal representations of psychological arrows of time. ご不明な点などございましたら、狩野(06-6879-8052, kano@hus.osaka-u.ac.jp)まで お問い合わせ下さい。 |
