How I studied for the entrance exam

It is very important to have your "own summary". I strongly feel that this is necessary not only for entrance exams but also for learning after entering university. If you only read the textbook or only solve the problem set, it is very hard to be able to organize your knowledge sufficiently to fully understand it. My advice is when reading the textbook, extract the parts that you think are important and summarize them systematically in your notebook, when solving problem sets, Analyze the patterns of problems in each field and the causes of your mistakes, then organize them.
For example, in order to grasp the whole picture of high school physics, I briefly summarized each field in my own way so that I could fit it on an A4 paper sheet. Studying to summarize the textbook not only deepened my understanding, but also helped me consolidate my knowledge by periodically testing whether I could "reconstruct the flow of the textbook in my mind" by looking only at my summary.

Level of satisfaction with student life

Learning is fun. That's what I want to emphasize. I am really grateful to the people who made this kind of environment.
Students in the Mathematical Sciences course are rarely overwhelmed with experiments and lectures assignments. In other words, we are able to secure enough time for independent studies. For example, I often read mathematical books in my free time. Of course, I review lectures notes and do assignments, but I also study about things that were not covered in the lectures or that have little to do with them. I believe that each student should be free to learn what he or she finds enjoyable.
In addition, since the number of students in the Mathematical Sciences Course is small, with only about 15 students in each grade, it is easy to make friends within the course and learn through friendly rivalry with like-minded friends. No matter how much you enjoy learning, it can be depressing to work quietly by yourself, so it is very important to have such friends.
Furthermore, the ratio of teachers to students is high, which allows us to communicate well with teachers. The teachers are professionals in the mathematical science field. Of course, you need to study hard, but there is a luxurious environment where you can ask as many questions as you want to the professionals in the mathematical science field.

About the future

After entering the Mathematical Sciences Course, I learned that there are various options for my future. Before I enrolled in the course, I had assumed that "specializing in mathematics would limit future options", but I was completely wrong. However, now I have not decided which path to take, and I just want to steadily build up what I can do.

One can have a fulfilling student life of studying and doing club activities.

How I studied for the entrance exam

When I was studying for the entrance exam, what I valued was not only memorizing formulas and other things that needed to be memorized as just written information, but also understanding and memorizing the content in a way that was easy for me to remember and use. In other words, it is important to to be able to interpret things.
It is true that you may be able to solve similar problems to the ones that you have solved before just by memorizing them, but if the format changes a little, you will not be able to apply that knowledge and will not be able to solve them. In addition, in the World Aptitude Cram School Entrance Exam (currently the School Recommendation Type Selection), which I passed, in my opinion, you are required to explain what is happening in natural phenomena on the premise that you understand the formulas. When explaining such phenomena, memorizing formulas is of course not enough to compete in the exam. It is necessary to have a deep understanding of the formulas.
Interpreting formulas in such a way will not only help you solve problems, but also help you understand natural phenomena, which is interesting because you get to kill two birds with one stone.

Level of satisfaction with student life

I feel very fulfilled with my studies and my student life in general.
In terms of studies, students can take in-depth courses in all areas of mathematics, including linear algebra and calculus. Of course, you can also take courses in information science. I think that his is a good choice for those who want to study both mathematics and information science. In addition, the number of students per year is small, so it is easy to get along with friends in the same course. I find that it is important that you can make friends easily in the same course, because you can teach each other and improve together.
I'm also taking a teaching course, and I'm planning to get a license to teach middle and high school mathematics in the future. This way, I am able to learn about the work of a teacher, which I could not have imagined when I was a junior or a high school student. One of the good things about the Mathematical Sciences Course is that I can combine normal studies and teaching studies at the same time.
Aside from studying, I am a member of the track and field team, specializing in the 400m. I train every day to be able to run as fast as possible. I am able to devote myself to club activities while studying for classes.

About the future

While studying in the Mathematical Sciences course, I have realized that I have many choices. As for what my future career will be, I will choose what I am interested in at that time, but I will do my best every day to have a wide range of choices when the time comes to make that choice.

I wanted to continue my education after graduating the National Institute of Technology in search of more knowledge about my specialization and a broader perspective.

How I studied for the entrance exam

Since I came to university after graduating the National Institute of Technology, I took the transfer exam and the graduate school exam. For both exams, I basically practiced with past exams. By solving the past exams, I can understand the tendency of the questions and how much I can do at the moment. Once I understood the tendency of the questions, I identified the areas that were likely to appear in the questions in each field, and learned more about related knowledge in those areas.
I also made sure that I could prove most of the basic theorems in mathematics. By doing so, I think you will be able to understand the basic concepts in each field and be able to apply them. I think there is no harm in doing this because you will use it a lot even after you enter university.
Studying for exams can be tough if you do it alone. By discussing with other students who are also taking the exam, you can increase your motivation, and you can output your knowledge and deepen your understanding by teaching others.

It was difficult for me to follow the lectures at first since I changed my major from the National Institute of Technology to the Mathematical Science Course, but since the prerequisite knowledge is explained at the beginning of each lecture, it is easy for me to know what I need to study. In the Mathematical Sciences course, there are no experiments, so you are rarely overwhelmed by assignments or reports. If you study independently and learn the missing knowledge, you will soon find it easier to follow the lectures. Nowadays, there are articles and videos on the Internet that are easy to understand even for specialized knowledge, and it is surprisingly easy to learn, so I think you can easily change your major.
After studying mathematics at university, the more new knowledge I gained, the more things I didn't understand, but little by little, I began to understand mathematics, and there were more situations where I found mathematics fun. From there, I spent more and more time studying mathematics, and as a result, I was able to receive the Kusumoto Prize (equivalent to being the top student in the Department of Information Science and Technology, Faculty of Engineering Science, Osaka University, and it is awarded at the graduation ceremony).
All lectures at the university are interesting, but basically difficult. However, for those who want to study Mathematical Science, I think our course provides the best environment to ask questions to experts in each field.

About the future

Mathematics is the basis of many different disciplines and is applied in a wide range of fields. By studying in the Mathematical Science Course, you will be able to look at things from a broader perspective.
I don't have a clear idea of the path I want to take in the future, but I would like to continue to learn more about my specialty and clarify my own future plans.
